Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Colombo & City Introduction

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo. Be warmly welcomed by your private guide and transfer to your hotel in the city. After check-in, embark on a scenic introduction to Sri Lanka's vibrant commercial capital. Visit the historic Galle Face Green — a vast ocean-side urban park, perfect for a breezy evening stroll as street food vendors line the promenade. Drive through the colonial Fort District — admire the Old Parliament Building, Colombo Lighthouse, and the grand Dutch Period Museum. Explore the aromatic Pettah Bazaar — a bustling market district overflowing with spices, gemstones, fabrics, and local produce. Enjoy a welcome dinner at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Indian Ocean. Overnight in Colombo.

Day 02: Kandy — Temple of the Tooth & Cultural Capital

After breakfast, depart for Kandy (approx. 3–4 hours from Colombo through lush tea-covered hills and spice plantations). En route, visit a working spice and herb garden — learn about cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and pepper grown in their natural habitat. Upon arriving in Kandy — Sri Lanka's last royal capital and a UNESCO World Heritage City — visit the sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic) — one of Buddhism's most venerated shrines, housing a relic of the Buddha's tooth. Stroll around the serene Kandy Lake and explore the Kandy Central Market. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Kandyan Cultural Show — featuring fire dancing, acrobatic drumming, and classical dance. Overnight in Kandy.

Day 03: Kandy to Yala — Journey to the Wild South

After breakfast, check out of Kandy and travel toward Sri Lanka's rugged south. En route, visit the atmospheric Buduruwagala Rock Temple — colossal 9th-century Buddhist rock carvings in the jungle. Continue through Wellawaya and into the dry zone towards Yala (total journey approx. 5–6 hours). Check in to your jungle eco-lodge. Late afternoon jeep safari in Yala for a first taste of the wild — spot deer, peacocks, and if lucky, your first leopard. Overnight at Yala.

Day 04: Transfer to Yala & Afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast, check out and travel to Yala National Park — Sri Lanka's most famous wildlife reserve, in the southeastern corner of the island (approx. 5–6 hours from Kandy or 3 hours from Ella). Check in to your jungle lodge or eco-resort near the park boundary. In the late afternoon, embark on your first Yala game drive in an open-topped jeep, accompanied by an expert naturalist guide. Yala boasts the world's highest density of leopards, alongside herds of Sri Lankan elephants, sloth bears, water buffalo, crocodiles, jackals, and over 215 bird species. Watch as the sun sets over the scrubland, painting the sky amber as the nocturnal wildlife begins to stir. Return to the lodge for a candlelit bush dinner. Overnight at Yala.

Day 05: Yala Full Day Safari — Leopards, Elephants & Birds

Rise before dawn for the early morning game drive — the best time to spot leopards resting in trees and elephants moving to the water holes. After a breakfast back at camp, join an afternoon game drive through a different sector of the park — covering the coastal lagoons, scrub jungle, and ancient ruins of Sithulpawwa Rock Temple (an archaeological site within the park). Watch storks, painted storks, peacocks, and flamingos at the lagoon margins. Return to the lodge for a farewell bush dinner under the stars. Overnight at Yala.

Day 06: Yala to Bentota — Coast Road & Beach Arrival

After an early morning game drive, check out of your jungle lodge and drive along Sri Lanka's scenic southern coastal highway to Bentota (approx. 3.5 hours), passing the historic Galle Fort — a UNESCO World Heritage colonial fort city — for a brief stop and walk through the atmospheric ramparts, Dutch streets, and lighthouse. Continue to Bentota and check in to your beachfront resort. Evening at leisure on the beach. Overnight in Bentota.

Day 07: Bentota — Water Sports, Turtles, River Safari & Departure

Final morning water sports and a visit to the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Hatchery. Afternoon Bentota River mangrove safari. Late check-out and transfer to Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport for your onward international flight.
